How is the course assessed?

  • Unit CN1

The aim of the assessment is for you to practically apply your knowledge and understanding gained from your studies of the NC syllabus. To do this, you will complete an Open Book Examination (OBE) based on a fictional construction site

You will have 48 hours to complete and submit your answers. You do not have to complete the examination all in one go.

The assignment is then internally assessed by NEBOSH.

It is the delegate’s responsibility to submit their written assessment within the timescale. Any assessments not returned by the deadline will result in the delegate failing this section of the course.

Unit NC1: 45 marks A ‘Pass’ must be obtained to achieve the NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction

How is the NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation course assessed?

To achieve the qualification, candidates must pass a practical assessment.

The practical assessment is completed at the end of the course and lasts approximately 60 minutes.

You will be provided with a pack of evidence and shown a video of three witness interviews.

You will be asked to review the evidence, evaluate each interview and produce an action plan that will help prevent a recurrence of an incident.

You will receive your results within 24 working days of sitting the assessments. Once you have achieved a pass a qualification parchment will be issued.

This is normally within 40 working days of the confirmation of the successful unit.

How long does it take to complete the NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation course?

1 Day for the classroom course.

You will be required to undertake three hours of pre-course reading before your course commences.

Some suggestions for this pre-course reading include:

How is the IOSH Managing Safely® E-Learning course assessed?

Learners will be assessed in two ways:

  • The first part of the assessment is a 45 minute paper assessment, which consists of 30 questions in a variety of formats. In order to pass you must achieve at a pass mark of 36 out of 60, you will have two attempts.
  • The second part of the assessment requires the learner to complete a workplace risk assessment using the standard IOSH form. The project will be marked using IOSH criteria by our IOSH assessor the pass mark is 23 out of a possible 36.

Candidates need to have completed both parts of the qualification to gain the full qualification.

NEBOSH Fire Certificate Online course content

The qualification is a two unit qualification and is broken down into six elements:

Unit FSC1 – Fire Safety 

  • Element 1: Managing fire safety
  • Element 2: Principles of fire and explosion
  • Element 3: Fuel, Oxygen, and Ignition Sources and Control Measures
  • Element 4: Fire protection in buildings
  • Element 5: Safety of people in the event of a fire
  • Element 6: Fire safety Risk Assessment

How is the NEBOSH Fire Certificate E-Learning course assessed?

  • Unit FSC1 is a taught unit assessed by a two-hour written examination on the last day of the course. The examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions which are 8 marks each and one ‘long-answer’ question which offers 20 marks. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
  • Unit FSC2 is assessed by a Fire Risk Assessment carried out in the delegate’s workplace.

The written practical has to be submitted to Southwest Health and Safety Training within 10 working days after of the FSC Open Book Examination (OBE).

The assignment is then externally assessed and moderated by NEBOSH.

It is the delegate’s responsibility to submit their written assessment within the timescale. Any assessments not returned by the deadline will result in the delegate failing this section of the course.

Candidates need to have completed both parts of the qualification within five years of registration to gain the full qualification.

There are no entry requirements for this NEBOSH qualification, however, it is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

How is the NEBOSH General Certificate e-learning course assessed?

To achieve the qualification, candidates must pass an Open Book Assessment (NG1) and the practical assessment (NG2) carried out in the candidate’s own workplace.

  • Unit NG 1 is assessed by way of an Open Book Examination.

  • Unit NG 2 is assessed by completing a Risk Assessment at your place of work within a ten-days of the Examination date.

How long is the NEBOSH General Certificate Online course valid for once complete? +

This qualification has no run-out date, but it is recommended that you complete yearly Professional Development.

What is the NEBOSH Open Book Exam? +

The Open Book Exam is one of the main changes to how the NEBOSH National General Certificate is assessed. Previously the learner had to attend the NGC1 exam face-to-face at a training centre. Now the exam for NG1 is completed remotely from home or at work NEBOSH have named this the “Open Book Exam”.

The Open Book Exam can be accessed online and can be completed wherever the learner pleases. Exams are hosted on one set day and are open for 24 hours. To attend, the learner simply needs to log in remotely on a device with a screen at any time during that window.

How do I complete the Open Book Exam? +
  • If you have booked the full classroom or online course you will automatically be registered for the Open Book Examination on the dates set by NEBOSH.
  • If you are an external student you will be sent our Delegate Registration Form, in which they will need to fill in and return back to the office.
  • Access to the NEBOSH online examination platform will be sent around eight days before the exam, NEBOSH will send you the log in details to the platform. You will then be able to login and familiarise themselves with the platform.
  • Examinations run from 9 am – 9 am giving you 24 hour access to the platform.
  • On the Examination day you will be able to access the OBE question paper on the platform. You will have 24 hours to complete and submit the completed exam.
  • Following the exam, you will be contacted by a member of the team to arrange a closing interview.
  • NEBOSH will email the results to you up to 50 days after the exam day.
